Academy of Church Business Administrators Hold Training in Nashville

 

With a history of training principled Christian leaders, the Academy of Church Business Administrators (ACBA) held the annual training session in Nashville at the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) Ministry Center, June 20-30.  Rev. Bob Winstead, who has an 8-year history as the director and over 20 years affiliated with the program, led the training. 

The certification program specifically developed for church business administrators offers church leaders, pastors, executive pastors and church administrators the opportunity to learn the business of effective ministry. Training topics for the two-week session included insurance coverage for church properties and building management; church legal and tax issues; the role of clergy to faithful giving; administration of human resources in the church setting; church staff leadership and development and employment practices; strategic planning and much more. 

Tammie Ruffle, a member of a local United Methodist congregation, is an Executive Assistant with GCFA who attended the training and is on the path to being certified as a church business administrator. She said “[The] training is a comprehensive, insightful and well-rounded training for anyone who is in the ministry of administration. Best practices are given on a wide variety of areas from experts in the field who work in the Church.”

Rev. Winstead said, “I was impressed by the depth of knowledge and experience from instructors and participants as we learned and shared together best practices for church finances, facilities, human resources, and information technology. The Nashville setting and the support of the GCFA staff was a valuable asset this year. Mark your calendars for June 19 -30, 2017.”

The GCFA Shared Services Department worked collaboratively with the Academy to provide support, guidance and consultation in support of GCFA’s administrative ministry that supports the mission of The United Methodist Church.
