GCFA Staff at Africa University for IT Infrastructure Installation

 

Nashville, TN – In late 2016, IT and Shared Services staff of the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) met with staff and leadership of Africa University for an Information Technology assessment.  During that meeting, it was determined that the IT infrastructure could be enhanced to support the growth and development of the University as a significant entity impacting the world to develop global leaders. GCFA entered into an agreement with AU to collaborate on installing infrastructure to meet current and future needs.

The members of the GCFA IT staff who are on the campus of Africa University in Mutare for the next few weeks are Michael Dunn, Network Engineer, Dale Owens Application Development Manager, and Stephen Pace, Data Center Engineer.  They are working with the IT staff of Africa University to install internet switches and commercial grade Wi-Fi for the entire campus – providing supported internet connectivity to the entire campus. Shannon Lavrin, Shared Services Manager and Derek Preston, Director of IT Infrastructure of GCFA will join them this week. Working with vetted vendors, GCFA helped negotiate pricing on high-end equipment from international service providers. AU Staff, under the direction of Richard Fotsin and his team at the Information Communication and Technology Department, are assisting with the installation and receiving training on its effective use for the campus.

The installation will take several weeks and is scheduled to be completed by May 20, 2017.
