PAUMCS Online Certification Course and Educational Tour Scheduled

 

Online Certification Class and Educational Tours Offered to the Professional Association of United Methodist Church Secretaries (PAUMCS)


Nashville, TN –  The General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) and the Professional Association of United Methodist Church Secretaries (PAUMS) launched the PAUMCS certification class as an online learning process in 2016.  Fifty-two registrants engaged in the first ever online course.  Developed in cooperation with the General Commission on Communications (UMCom), the modules are designed to provide professional development training for United Methodist church administrative support staff.  The development of the course supports the GCFA Book of Discipline responsibilities to provide professional development for this group of church workers.   The purpose of developing the training as an online course was to help reduce costs to churches and individuals, while still providing professional training that would enhance the ministry of administration for the attendees. 

Melonie Card the Congregational Services Administrator for Trinity United Methodist Church in Las Vegas, Nevada is taking the online training this summer.  She said, “I loved each course because each one taught me something new.  I [particularly enjoyed] ‘Connectional Giving’ and ‘Working in Teams’.  Being able to learn more about how to connect with people and to help them be a part of something that is so much bigger…is so very rewarding…It is a blessing to be able to work where I do and receive all the blessings that come with it.”

Caitlin Congdon, the Chief Officer of Human Resources and Professional Development for GCFA was instrumental in developing the resource.  She said, “The development of the PAUMCS Online Certification Course maintains the subject matter covered in the conventional course, but combines ease-of-access and cost effectiveness for the participants.  Online learning continues to develop and this resource will continue to evolve as we investigate ways to provide quality training for PAUMCS members.”   

In previous years, the certification class was held at Candler School of Theology in Atlanta.  Since 2011, the Institute has been held at the GCFA Ministry Center in Nashville.  Two more sessions are planned for 2016 and begin September 7 and November 18 for two weeks each.   

In addition to the online certification class, GCFA, working with Educational Opportunities (EO) is providing an opportunity for PAUMCS members to enhance their knowledge of the Christian faith by offering a trip to the Holy Land.  PAUMCS members can go on an 8-days holy land tour beginning January 31, 2017.  The reduced cost for PAUMCS members is $1,598 per person from New York and includes Bethlehem, Galilee, Jerusalem, and the Garden Tomb.  Travelers will have an experienced guide to navigate the walking paths of Jesus’ birthplace, ministry, death and resurrection.

The development of the online certification and the offer for the educational tour support the missions of PAUMCS and GCFA to provide administrative professionals a support system that promotes individual and professional growth and development, continuing education and spiritual enrichment and is another way that the church is finding to develop principled Christian leaders.”
