The UMC Foundation Begins Relationship with Humphrey/Kelly Group

Nashville, TN - On July 1, 2016 The United Methodist Church Foundation is announcing a new investment consulting relationship with The Humphrey/Kelly Group of Merrill Lynch Global Institutional Consulting.  The Foundation initiated the change to offer its participants a higher level of and improved account access and reporting and investment managers that are aligned with the principles and social policies of The United Methodist Church.

The Humphrey/Kelly Group combines the global reach and resources of Bank of America and Merrill Lynch, two leaders in investment management.  They provide additional experience to deliver a completely customized approach to the Foundation.

The Foundation’s move will provide its participants with daily account valuation with access to account values on the date of their choosing.  In addition, this move will offer an industry standard one business day turnaround from deposit to investment in most cases which had not previously been available.  Investor Relations Manager Ehren Congdon said, “Both of these features will provide an opportunity for The Foundation’s participants to invest in an asset allocated portfolio set to meet their investment and time horizon needs.”

The Foundation will continue to offer the Balanced (Equity/Fixed Income) and Balanced Plus (Balanced plus alternative investments) Funds.  With the newly updated capabilities, investors can also directly gain access to the variety of domestic and international asset classes.  A unique feature of funds offered by the Foundation is that all funds are socially screened so as to comply with United Methodist Social Principles that are important to investors within the denomination. In addition, resolutions filed by the Foundation with companies ask for corporate behavioral change in the areas of: board diversity, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) reporting, reduction of violence in media and video gaming, greenhouse gas emission reduction and reporting and the fight against human trafficking. The Foundation continues to expand its socially responsible investment ministry through shareholder advocacy in environmental, social and governance areas.

The United Methodist Church Foundation creates opportunities for growth and vitality throughout the Church, financially and spiritually, for the making of disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
