GCFA Board Monthly Meeting and Two-Day New Treasurer’s Training Held

Nashville, TN – The General Council on Finance and Administration (“GCFA”) Board met by conference call on Friday, February 28.

In its action, the Board voted to recommend to the General Conference that a portion of the Permanent Fund could be used “to provide funding for General Conference related expenses and for any emergency needs of the Episcopal Fund.” This recommendation will be reflected in an updated version of GCFA’s Report #15 to the 2020 General Conference.

In other action, the Committee on Audit and Review is working on updates to the Local Church Audit Guide which is posted on the GCFA website. The Committee anticipates the revised document will assist local churches by providing best practices related to their audits.

The Board also received reports from other Committees. The Board celebrated the work of the departments offering Shared Services throughout the United Methodist connection.  Providing these services raised $3,200,000 in revenue for the agency, lessening its dependence on apportioned funds offered to local churches, annual conferences and other United Methodist entities.  These services include IT, HR, Travel and Meeting Planning and other services.

GCFA also hosted orientation/training for five new annual conference treasurers at its Nashville headquarters.

The next GCFA board meeting will be March 9-10 in Nashville at the Scarritt Bennett Center
