CT and GCFA boards affirm budget allocations
On May 18, 2023, the Connectional Table (CT) and General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) met to discuss the allocations to the apportioned funds that each. Both boards affirmed the allocations.
The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church requires both of the church entities to achieve a mutual agreement per ¶ 905.7(a) and ¶ 806.1(b) on the allocations to the World Service Fund, Ministerial Education Fund, Black College Fund, Africa University Fund, and the Interdenominational Cooperation Fund. The allocations reflect the outcome of negotiations between CT and GCFA’s Committee on General Agency and Episcopal Matters (GAEM).
The 2025-2028 quadrennial budget recommended to General Conference will be $371 million and assumes a 2.54% base rate, which represents a 22.9% decrease in the base rate from the last quadrennial budget.
“The work that the CT and GCFA do is not just about those two groups, but about how we can enable ministry throughout the church,” noted Bishop McKee, President of GCFA.
“While acknowledging the financial stress on the denomination from the pandemic and disaffiliations, the work of these two boards is setting a tone of renewed hope and spirit of cooperation,” shared Bishop Mande Muyombo who serves as chair of the Connectional Table.
The budget will be presented for final approval at the postponed 2020 United Methodist General Conference to be held April 23 – May 3, 2024, at Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
