Nashville, TN – Following up on the brand of UMC Support, the Information Technology Department of the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) recently assisted a local church in Florida.

Cyndy Cook, Church Administrator for Cypress Lake United Methodist Church in Ft. Myers, Florida, reports that the church was having problems livestreaming Sunday worship last August. The local internet and IT service providers were contacted, but neither group was able to solve the problem. The only solution, they told the church, was to buy new equipment. In addition, service got slower and some functions ceased working.

During a scheduled visit for an IT assessment at the church, IT members Ryan Penrose and Michael Dunn were able to look at the situation and pinpointed the problem – a bad server.  Though the only solution from the service provider was to buy new equipment, Michael Dunn was able to assess the problem and get it resolved without purchasing new equipment – a financial savings for the church. Derek Preston, Chief Information Officer for GCFA says “each member of our IT team is dedicated to finding solutions that work for each of our customers. When Ryan and Michael worked with Cypress Lake, the important issue was to return to them the service they had so that they can continue their ministry in the community.”

Ms. Cook adds “We felt totally confident in the information [Michael Dunn] provided and the solutions he proposed because we were all on the same team – doing the work of making disciples (and yes, that involves technology!)…We are so thankful for the technological competency of the IT staff at GCFA, but we especially appreciate their kindness and dedication.”
