GCFA Board Meets in Late July

Monday, August 2, 2021
Nashville, Tennessee – The Board of Directors of the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) met virtually on July 30 to hear a request from Bishop Daniel Wandabula. The request is for a grant related to a mortgage foreclosure on property for one or more Church-related properties in the East Africa Episcopal Area.
The GCFA Board was provided background information dated back to 2000 related to audit issues with the East Africa Episcopal Area encountered by GBGM and GCFA.
Based on a review of the background information, and the lack of supporting financial documents for the grant request, the Board voted unanimously to not provide the grant.
Bishop Michael McKee, President of the GCFA Board said, “We have notified Bishop Wandabula of the Board’s decision. We have been in conversation with the Bishop and his cabinet over the course of several years to try to resolve concerns expressed by financial professionals working with GCFA and GBGM. To date those concerns have not been resolved to a point where we can resume regular general Church support of the East Africa Episcopal area. We are all praying God’s grace and peace in this area of our work to be transparent about the funds provided by the faithful people of The United Methodist Church.”
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the GCFA Board will be held virtually in late August.
